Northwest Portland is one of Portland's most desired areas as it is very close to downtown, making it easy to take a bus, Max Line, ride your bike, or even walk and or course, convenient to several freeways. You will find many well-maintained older homes, newer constructions, apartment buildings, condo conversions and eclectic variety of retail businesses, cafes and restaurants along NW 21st and 23rd Avenue.

Several beautiful and premier areas and neighborhoods make up Northwest Portland, starting downtown north of West Burnside Street and north of Sunset Highway (Hwy 26) from the Willamette River West toward Hillsboro to approximately Cornelius Pass Road. King Height is at a higher elevations west of Downtown, with older estate-size homes that were frequently remodeled and upgraded. Many enjoy an easterly view overlooking Downtown, the Harbor with its terminals, Sauvie Island and snow-covered Mt. Hood, Mt. Saint Helens and Mt. Adams.

Cedar Mill, Bonny Slope and Saltzman Road are further west, easy to reach on Highway 26 and newly widened and completely rebuilt Saltzman Road with sidewalks and bicycle lanes. Bauer Oaks, Bauer Woods and Bauer Creek Estates are some of these subdivisions from higher middle to the higher price ranged homes. North of this area are still many farms mixed with wooded areas providing very relaxing atmosphere for rides in the country side.

Bethany Neighborhood is at the northwestern edge of Portland's Urban Growth Boundary, combining residential neighborhoods with variety of shops to increase walking activity. Two of the larger subdivisions are Oak Hills and Rock Creek with many parks, golf courses, Portland Community College and Tualatin Hills Park Recreation Sportsfields are next to it.
